Ultra Music Festival 2013 Phase 1 Lineup Announcement Adds Indie Element

While no official announcements have confirmed or denied the likeliness of Ultra’s second weekend getting shut down, UMF released its Phase 1 line up this morning with differentiations for the two weekends. Let’s see if things continue as planned in the city of beats, beaches and apparent breaches of legality.

Many of the names you have come to expect appear on the roster with big ticket names like Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Armin van Buuren and Avicii. This year, the live sets have added a sprinkling of electro-indie pop acts that you would expect (and have played) at festivals like Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival. Crystal Castles has been in both worlds for a long time now, but newcomers on the scene Yeasayer and Matt & Kim should be especially interesting. The announcements is less surprising since the trio has been leaning perpetually more electronic since their sophomore release Odd Blood in 2010. Whether this ratio of acts will continues through Phase 2 remains to be seen.

With an equal focus on live acts and DJ sets, 2013 will prove to be one of the most diverse, and potentially challenging to orchestrate Ultra’s yet.
