Review: Sebastian Ingrosso + Friends NYC Invasion at Roseland
Sebastian Ingrosso took over the famous Roseland Ballroom in New York City for two nights this weekend, and I had the privilege of going to both shows. Ingrosso, one third of the world famous Swedish House Mafia, brought out a crowd and a line that went down the block both nights. Carl Kennedy set the mood as he was the first DJ to open. Without pause, Otto Knows, the latest artist out of Sweden came on stage to perform. His stellar track “Million Voices” got the crowd worked up for Style of Eye to come on and destroy with songs like Zedd’s remix of Skrillex’s “Breakin’ a Sweat.” The opening lineup was the same for both Friday and Saturday. After Style of Eye was finished getting the audience jumping, a larger DJ booth was revealed for Sebastian to walk out to the screams of all of his fans.
As steam jets exploded from the ground and the ceiling, Ingrosso dropped Swedish House Mafia’s latest track, “Greyhound.” The feeling in the crowd was electric as fans held up the flag of Sweden and their “I Love Swedish House Mafia” T-shirts. It was no surprise that Ingrosso played both versions of his new song with Alesso, “Calling (Lose My Mind)” at the peak of his performance. The light show and display screens captivated the senses. Roseland really likes dropping confetti and streamers because they rained down from the ceiling throughout the night.
No one could have expected Ingrosso to play Cazzette’s remix of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Ni**as in Paris.” The dubstep drop made the crowd go wild. By the end of the night, Ingrosso had everyone singing “Save The World.” It was one of those lighters-in-the-air-swaying-side-to-side moments. In all, Saturday night’s show was definitely more of a party atmosphere as the crowd chanted the hook in The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” all the way out into the city streets. Woahhh-uhoh-oh-oh-oh-ohh!
