Steve Lawler brought LIFƎ to NYC at Dekalb Market, Dance.Here.Now. 5/12/12

DANCE.HERE.NOW. did it again putting together an intricately planned Saturday day party at the new Dekalb Market presenting Steve Lawler ‘LIFƎ‘ New York along with DJ couple Sleepy & Boo. Thank you to Dance.Here.Now., Robpromotions, Benny Soto, Pacha NYC, RPM, Sleepy & Boo, and of course Steve Lawler for acquainting us with an incredible Saturday afternoon filled with great music and beautiful people under the Brooklyn sun.

Dekalb Market is a new community destination in Downtown Brooklyn housed in a collection of salvaged shipping containers, bringing  together Brooklyn’s creative entrepreneurs in a community setting that include an incubator farm, shops, eateries, and of course a fun-filled event space where we were pleasantly entertained by the tweaky tech-house sounds of Steve Lawler along with NYC’s own Sleepy & Boo. The sun was shining amongst 80 degrees of fun-filled perfection as Sleepy & Boo opened up this past Saturday afternoon with positive vibing tech-house tunes sophisticatedly chosen to get the crowd at Dekalb Market loosened up for the upcoming afternoon hours. People were pouring in from 3:00 p.m. sharp, checking out the incredible shops including handmade jewelry, household items, and even old-school typewriters? Sleepy & Boo were exceptional as usual, providing the Dekalb crowd with some light tech-house beats to get us riled up for Steve Lawler.

A little past 5:30 p.m. the hands soared as the sounds of Steve Lawler ‘LIFƎ‘ swept the sound system at Dekalb Market. The kids want techno, so that’s what he gave us. Unable to ‘label’ him because he defines his own generic boundaries, Steve Lawler is one of the most recognized and praised artists of the EDM industry, once again bringing together tech-house topped with a little deep, dark drumcode. He hit us with effervescent tracks like his remix to Shlomi Aber’s “Create Balance”, and his newest powerhouse creation “Venerate”. After about an hour I noticed the sound-bars mellow as the sun began to dim, and we heard current party favorite, Pirupa’s “Party Non Stop” coming over the Dekalb Market speakers – the crowd went WILD!   People were yelling with excitement, infamous dance-circles were forming and the positive energy was unstoppable. Steve Lawler brings his fans a sound that is so powerful yet so unheard of, mixing together a minute of minimal house followed by a little Latin flavor, toppled over bold techno ensembles.  He has been breaking the dance boundaries both technically and creatively for 18 years, so his opening ‘LIFƎ’ party at Dekalb Market this past Saturday was nothing short of dynamic! As the evening progressed the energy was still chart-topping. Everyone was having a great time  being concaved with fine tunes like Steve Lawler’s remix to Detlef’s “Audition”, original production “Caracus”, and the indescribable remix to “Decent Treatment”. There were certainly a couple of ID Tracks that I will be scouting this week, but the synthesized tech-house melodies brought to Dekalb Market were assertively loved and praised by that vibrant Saturday crowd.

The positive vibes reigned until security kicked us out at 9 p.m. on the dot, but Dance.Here.Now., Robpromotions, Benny Soto, Pacha NYC, RPM, Sleepy & Boo, and Steve Lawler definitely delivered a fiery opening outdoor event for the much anticipated upcoming Summer Season! We enjoyed the street art, vendors and dining that Dekalb Market had to offer, as well as a sun-filled afternoon complete with GREAT MUSIC, so we look forward to upcoming events! Be sure to follow Steve Lawler on Facebook and Twitter to see what venue he is going to blow the roof off of next.
