Review: Sander van Doorn at The MID Chicago 4/28/12

Dutch DJ and producer, Sander van Doorn, closed out The MID last week with another one of his rip-roaring performances that left a satisfied impression for many Chicagoans. SVD is mostly known for his trance, tech-trance, and tech-house beats. Early in his career, Sander won an award for ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ at the International Dance Music Awards during the Miami Winter Conference in 2008. According to the highly acclaimed DJ Mag’s top 100 DJs list, he has been listed as a top 20 DJ for the past four years. Not to mention he never ceases to deliver an amazing hour of music on his ‘Identity’ podcast, which he hosts every week on Siruis XM radio (also available on iTunes). His podcast is not only a great platform to listen to his new music, but to many other EDM producers’ sounds as well.

Sander opened his three-hour set at The MID with his  2012 release ‘Chasin’. When he hit his first drop, the entire club filled with CO2 fog and loose napkins as everyone erupted in exuberant movement. There was a sense of rousing serenity as Sander played his newest 2012 hit “Nothing Inside”, released today on Beatport, and he once again picked up the pace when he followed up by Cedric Gervais’ track “Molly”. Other memorable mentions were Sander’s rendition of Otto Knows, “Million Voices”, and Sander’s own 2011 hit “Love is Darkness.” However, my favorite of the night had to be when he played  his collaboration track with Adrian Lux, “Eagles,” a track filled with hope and promise which left The MID’s patrons captivated as the lights slowly starting turning on close to 4:30 in the morning.
