Review: Markus Schulz Slayed Pacha NYC on Friday 5/4/12
The DJ/Producer dubbed as the “Unicorn Slayer” returned to New York City EDM mecca Pacha this past Friday, May 3rd. Markus Schulz had been at the venue earlier this year at the end of February and trance fans knew they were in for a treat when Massive Event and Pacha had announced his return to the big apple. Having not seen New Yorkers since before this year’s Miami Music Week and the release of his 2012 compilation, Los Angeles ’12, Markus had plenty of tracks up his sleeve to keep the crowd going crazy well into the morning hours of Saturday.
Proceeding after an amazing opening set from New York’s own DJ Brad Miller, Schulz slayed fans with an electrifying extended 5 hour set that lasted from 1am to 6am. True Markus fans came out for the party, packing out the NYC club with no signs of letting up. Even during the final 5am hour, Schulz provided high energy tunes and the fans gave him that same energy back. Playing a full five hours of the newest and best in trance, we heard unforgettable tracks such as Rotunda, Pistol Whip, as well as his latest single Loops & Tings alongside fellow trance legend Ferry Corsten. One of the most memorable moments of the night was when Markus dropped the original mix of Sander van Doorn’s 2012 hit single, Chasin’ that sent the entire club into a complete frenzy, fully equipped with confetti and ballons.
It was so enjoyable to watch Schulz mix throughout the course of the extended set, dancing and singing along, truly happy to party with his fans in New York City. Working on his new artist album, Markus brought along singer/songwriter Adina Butar, just recently signed to Schulz Music Group. (Check out our Interview with Adina & SMG coverage here.) He sampled a brand new collaboration he did with Adina, making both the crowd and Adina all smiles in the club. His dirty beats and incomparable sound make him a highly sought after DJ throughout the world. With his latest announcement during MMW about his new venture through Coldharbour Recordings, Schulz Music Group, fans can expect more high energy unicorn slaying throughout the year. With Electric Daisy Carnival New York only 9 days away, Schulz provided us with a pretty sweet taste of what to expect at the A State of Trance tent at Met Life Stadium on Saturday, May 19th. We cannot wait!
