Review: Jack Beats – Careless EP
Jacks Beats dropped some nasty beats via the OWSLA and after a full week, it’s still sitting pretty at #1 on Beatport. With collaborations from Dillon Francis, Takura and Diplo & Example, this chunk of sonic brilliance bangs heads harder than a hooker on a head board.
The album’s title track leads us in gently with a trance like built before exploding into glitchy pops lead by a synth highway of bass infused beats. Diplo and Example help take us to “War” with this synthesized tribal toggle that bounces like a kangaroo in heat. Those epic drums beats doe some serious work on your mood. This isn’t a head banger, it’s a battle cry.
Dillon lends some booty shaking grooves addressing the “Epidemic” of the surrounding EDM culture. Full track review by our very own Liz Moy here. “Can we make any sense of it?” We can try, but my brain is still recovering from the tornadoes of wobbles ravaging my synaptic landscape.
The Brits go solo for “Hooligans” and “End of Love.” The former is an aggressive stampede of womps spliced by interludes of playful toots creating a childlike back and forth of primal force and innocence. The latter incorporates a throwback disco factor with a slowed down dubstep bass to create a wholly uncategorizable but totally danceable slice of sound.
The mass of collaboration does wonders to diversify the EP, while still maintaining a consistent electro signature that reads Jack effing Beats. Nab that ish exclusively on Beatport.
