Review: Armin van Buuren at Congress Theater Chicago 5/26/12
Despite having spent the entire day drinking at my alma mater’s annual spring festival party, there was no way that I was going to miss Armin van Burren’s performance at the Congress Theater last Saturday night. In addition to a power nap and a hearty meal, Armin’s set provided the instant recovery I needed. Truly a master on the decks, his music has the ability to speak to every music lover’s soul. Any outside worry seems to cease to exist as van Buuren’s tracks envelope you in his electrifying and transcending sound. The show lasted over two hours and despite constantly dancing, I easily left the venue with more energy than when I first arrived.
Everyone in the space was fixated on what he was going to play next, and each song perfectly followed the other in an artistic fashion. The crowd showed tremendous response during his rendition of Planet Perfecto Knight’s, “Resurrection” and also during his epic cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Not that there was any doubt, but Armin once again put on a flawless show that solidified his reigning status as the greatest DJ in the world.
