Review: Anjunabeats Worldwide 04 Mix Compilation
Anjuna fans, set your alarm. The annual Anjunabeats Worldwide mix compilation is on sale this Monday, April 23rd. Known for showcasing up-and-coming trance producers all over the world, the fourth edition is fueled by 23 year-old Israeli producer Maor Levi and Polish producer Krzysztof Pretkiewicz aka Nitrous Oxide.
Levi, who mixed disc 1, started producing music at the age of 11 and had his first ever release on Anjunabeats at 17. However, just as his career started to pick up, Levi took a musical time out to perform his duty in the Israeli army. Refreshed and energized, Levi has recently been teaming up with Bluestone in his London studio. Bluestone’s latest track, “Namaste,” is featured on disc 1 along with Levi’s remixes for Boom Jinx’s “Phoenix From the Flames” featuring OceanLab’s Justine Suissa and Ost & Meyer’s “Safari.” Levi also puts a new spin on the classic Super8 & Tab track, “Alba” and features his latest single, “Won’t Say No.” Previously released tracks like Tate & Diamond’s “Electrified” feat. Nicolai (Mat Zo Remix), Mat Zo’s “It’s Yours,” Kyau & Albert’s “This Love” and Heatbeat’s remix of Parker & Hanson’s “Afterthought” are in the mix. American producer and new Anjuna favorite, Casey Keyworth opens and closes this mix with “Splitting” and his own remix of “Median” respectively. New tracks of current Anjuna favorites like Genix (who was also featured on Anjunadeep 04 recently) and Norin & Rad (it’s not an Anjuna party without these guys) are also featured on disc 1. Inpetto, siblings Marco and Dirk Duderstadt, also known as Duderstadt and two-thirds of the Fragma trio, bring their latest moniker to life with “No More Serious Faces” – a contagious, can’t-sit-still melody and vibrant arrangement. But because these compilations are about the newbies, we can’t review this without talking about Ruslan Malyarovsky and Dmitriy Kashin, better known as 3rd planet. With only one year of producing experience together, the Ukranian pair have snapped the necks of Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, Armin Van Buuren and Markus Schulz among others with their infectious grooves and driving bass lines. “Sevas” is no exception. Club-ready and eclectic, this mix belongs in the hands of those who believe in the power of dance.
Nitrous Oxide is an Anjunabeats veteran and each track he producers garners more notoriety than the last. Responsible for tracks such as “North Pole,” “Amnesia” and “Morning Light,” Nitrous Oxide continues to prove himself. Disc 2 is deeper and a bit more self-indulgent; Four Nitrous Oxide remixes and four originals are in the second mix. Disc 2 also features all the latest Anjunadeep suspects – Oliver Smith, Sunny Lax and Boom Jinx. It contains the heavy hitting trance tracks, “Azzura” by Boom Jinx & Daniel Kandi and “Awakenings” by Super8 & Tab. Nitrous Oxide also brings us fellow Polish producer, Adam Kancerski, whom he has just collaborated with to present Husaria’s “Poznan,” a drool-worthy percussion and bass line combo. “Orion,” the track featured here is already available for download on the Anjunabeats Worldwide 04 sampler along with “Andromeda” by Cramp and “Namaste” by Bluestone (featured on Disc 1). The 2012 club mix of the 2011 release, “Manchester AM” by Craig Connelly (winner of the “Empire” remix contest) is a slight rework of what Connelly calls an ode to the dance capital’s nightlife society. Heading the A&R department of Gareth Emery’s Garuda, Connelly is no stranger to new talent and being that this time around the talent is he, the seasoned Emery is guiding him. The mix as a whole is uplifting most notably on Nitrous Oxide’s newest collaboration with Space RockerZ called “Energize,” an appropriate title for an uplifting trance track. Fresh faces, but not “serious ones,” emerge alongside label favorites on these two mixes. Anjunabeats is on a compilation roll.
