Preview: Danny Tenaglia Graces Pacha NYC ONE LAST TIME, Maybe? 4/28/12
Danny Tenaglia is New York’s legendary DJ, native, and Grammy nominated record producer that has kept the dance scene alive since the 80’s. It saddens his friends and loyal fans that Danny Tenaglia has decided to step down from the decks at age 51, even if it is just a break! His success has exploded throughout the years because he taught us all how to ‘Be Ourselves’ and now he is going to be himself in a place other than the DJ booth. Danny is kindly giving us one final mind blowing performance at Pacha NYC this Saturday April 28th, 2012 in addition to his final appearance at Electric Daisy Carnival NYC on May 19th, and I am sure that he will take us on one final unforgettable adventure!
Danny began his musical journey in the 70’s being educated by artists like Patti LaBelle, Philly Soul’s The Trammps, Motown’s Marvin Gaye, Hugh Masekela, disco producer Giorgio Moroder, and even Kraftwerk. He started to sort through records tryingfiguring out his preferred ‘undefined’ style of sound when he discovered DJ Larry Levan’s eclectic ‘borderless’ vibes playing through the walls legendary nightclub Paradise Garage in 1979. For the next 33 years Danny sought out to mirror and expand what he discovered at Paradise Garage. He started in the New York dance scene and soon advanced to Miami, holding residency at Cheers Nightclub in the 80’s. He was looked up to for his skillful synchronizations and techniques with house music, remixing iconic songs like The Daou’s “Surrender Yourself”, Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy”, Jamiroquai’s “Emergency On Planet Earth”, and Madonna’s “Human Nature”,dissecting every cord and groove, turning it into his signature bass-infused rhythmic art. He was the king of ‘Hard & Soul’ and broke all the boundaries combining Soul, Disco, Latin, Tribal and House beats. He’s been a known resident at Roxy, Twilo, Tunnel, Webster Hall, Space, and Pacha NYC, to start the long faceted list of super-clubs, and he has been delivering dynamic LP’s since the 90’s such as ‘Mix This Pussy’(1994), ‘Gag Me With A Tune’ (1996), ‘Tourism’ (1998), ‘Athens’ / ‘London’(2000), ‘Futurism (2008) and several ‘Classic’ compilations which honor the artists that have influenced him. He gave us industry changing tracks such as“Elements” which introduced listeners to every necessary component of a successful-energizing dance track, instant classic “Music Is The Answer”, “Be Yourself”, and an unforgettable remix to Janet Jackson’s “Pleasure Principal”. His sets are dark, sexy, estranged and impossible to describe in words. He gives his fans an experience, a meaningful momentum.
Danny Tenaglia throws an unforgettable party every Winter Music Conference/Miami Music Week with industry legends like Carl Cox , DeepDish, Sasha, and Fatboy Slim. Tenaglia is the original “DJ’s DJ”, headlining the charts with electrifying sounds like Green Velvet’s “Flash” which won “Best Remix” at the UK’s Muzik Awards, and Billboard #1 Remix of Yoko Ono’s ‘Walking On Thin Ice”. He has been awarded with UK Muzik’s “Best International DJ” award and his “Be Yourself” Party was voted Best Party by Dancestar. He has taken dancefloors from Ibiza, Barcelona, Greece, India and New York by storm and most importantly, he taught us to “Be Ourself”. One of his most recent and praised accomplishmentsis being selected by the editors of DJ MAG to mix the Covermount CD for their 20th Anniversary, released in June 2011.
He has given to us time and time again for over 30 years and now it is time for us to give back.
