Event Review: Massive Event Pres. Summer Boat Series w/ DJ Eco, tyDi, Rory James + More! 6/16/12

Massive Event keeps their title for hosting the BEST TRANCE PARTIES on the East Coast by bringing us a Summer Boat Series in continuation of their Boat Party from summer 2011 that left us in awe as we danced into the sunset with Mat Zo, DJ Eco and James Gill. This year Massive Event opened up the season serenading us around the New York Harbor with some uplifting trance tunes delivered by our local favorite DJ Eco, who’s known for producing melodic gold with every track he lays his hands on, and Australia’s highly praised, 2 time voted #1 Australian DJ, tyDi.

To open up the captain’s deck, Brooklyn native Rory James threw down some soul-defying, progressive trance to set the mood for a beautiful evening at sea with our East Coast Trance Family. Rory James always brings his listeners on a journey through trance touching subtle, captivating symphonies of level and emotion while later on lifting your senses with some 130+ bpm progressive tunes. A real treat from Rory was when he snuck in the old school Sasha classic “Xpander” which circulates back to the early 90’s. Rory James kept the energy and attention of the upper level of this Trance Boat rising through his hour set setting the stage for tyDi and DJ Eco to follow. Some other memorable tracks that we caught as we first left the docks of Pier 40 were Petar Dundov’s “Distant Shores” and Simon Firth “Time Lapse (Guy Mantzur & Khen Remix)“. It’s always a pleasure to hear Rory James live because he keeps trance alive with his symphonic tempos and progressively jeweled tracks.

Following Rory James’ opening set was the classically trained and highly prized tyDi. With just a few short years of DJ’ing and Production under his belt, tyDi has voted Australia’s #1 DJ two years in a row in addition to being voted ‘Best Breakthrough DJ of the World 2010’ by Tiesto. Having been classically trained from the prestigious Conservatorium of Music, tyDi’s sound is so intricately designed combining progressive trance and classical melodies to create an exhilarating symphony of quality trance music. His music intertwines synthesized syncopations and dynamic sound-bars to create highly recognized compositions like “Acting Crazy”, “Take a Chance” and “Greater Heights”. He kept the energy alive on the Massive Event Trance boat with invigorating tracks like Heatbeat “Chow Mein”, and AndainTurn up the Sound (tyDi Remix)”. All of the artists that performed on June 16 knew that they must wholly reach into the hearts of their fans, having only just a short hour each to blow our eardrums away; and Rory James, tyDi, and DJ Eco all delivered a dynamic performance for their Trance Family.

To close out a perfect evening of Trancin’ on a boat, DJ Eco hit the decks on the main level around 9 p.m. ready to deliver an hour of intimate, personal tunes a bit different from how we usually hear Eco at nightclubs and festivals. Armin van Buuren publicly praised New York City’s own DJ Eco saying “Everything he touches is MELODIC GOLD”, he has been hailed by Martin Roth as “New York’s Uncut Diamond” and Eco is one of the newest high ranking additions to “the elite league of the upcoming young rebelling producers.” With a lot of close friends on board sailing under the New York Skyline, DJ Eco decided to get a little dark, dubby and dirty for his friends giving us a powerhouse hour of ‘the dark side of Eco’, as opposed to the heart-melting, uplifting trance he usually lays down. Eco closed the evening off with a bang delivering a daunting hour of rich, progressive trance that had the crowd hailing their ‘Trance Hands’ in the air across the New York harbor. DJ Eco hit us with some progressive favorites like Tempo Giusto & Ima’gin “Gemini” and Breakfast Keyworth’s “Chameleon”. He also couldn’t help but throw in some original tracks from his artist album including “Echoes”, “Borealis”, and the ever-so-fitting track Staring At the Sea (original and Masoud mix are both incredible!). DJ Eco also just released his new album ‘Constellations In You//1 on June 22, 2012 so we got a sneak preview of some of the amazing trance tracks from this new LP.

EDM NYC along with USA Movement set up some of our local favorites to rock the lower level of the Queen of Hearts Boat. A dedicated following of our Trance Family came to hear the eclectic sounds of Glojin, Lucas PM, Che` Johnson and Zack Edward who kept the energy and trance vibes alive throughout the evening as Rory James, tyDi and DJ Eco help down the top level. Massive Event delivered an incredible evening of Trance and Progressive and they have many more events in store for this summer season in New York. Stayed tuned for news on the next installment of the summer boat series, coming soon!
