Event Review: Getting my Swank on with Swanky Tunes at The MID Chicago 7/7/12

Swanky Tunes? Swanky indeed. This Russian team of producers and DJs took on the decks at The MID in Chicago on Saturday night, July 7th. This group has mastered the art of experimenting with different electronic styles to come up with their own unique sound. Their style consists of mainly progressive house sprinkled with touches of techno and 80’s electro, all mixed together with vintage synthesizers. Even though I get a monthly taste of Swanky via their Showland podcast and radio show, I was ecstatic to once again see these boys do their thing live. And do their thing, they did.
Vadim and Stanislav danced harder than the crowd during their three-hour set that night. Crowd pleasing bangers included their hit EPs: “Xoxo,” “Across the Light,” and “Together.” When they dropped their newly released collaboration “Here We Go” with fellow Russian producers, Hard Rock Sofa, the crowd went to another level. Swanky Tunes likes to keep it in the Russian family and has done a few collaborations with Hard Rock Sofa including: “Phantom,” “Feedback,” and “I Wanna Be Your Dog.”

This particular night at The MID exceeded my expectations. The energy was incredible and the dance floor was packed. Not to mention my Russian friends that accompanied me were especially excited to pay their respects to their fellow countrymen. Swanky Tunes did Chicago well, and they couldn’t have delivered a better time.
