EDM Insider Weekly Roundup May 5th – May 11th

So this week we’ve got more goodies than actual music. Either this was a slower week for releases or I’ve just been listening to The M Machine’s The Metropolis Pt. 1 on repeat and haven’t been able to process much else. Or both. And I’m not the only one. Check out the latest EDM updates this week (May 5th to May 11th) here!

1. In Memory of Adam Yauch

Wired’s Peter Rubin wrote a lovely homage to the beloved MCA in lieu of his recent death calling  him a “renaissance man of the remix age” and reminding us of the revolutionary contributions he made to music. Full post here: http://www.wired.com/underwire/2012/05/adam-yauch-rip/

2. Electric Zoo Phase 2 Lineup Announced

Some great names added to the list. Phase 2 includes Diplo, Zedd, Benga, Jack Beats, Alvin Risk, Bart B More, Congorock, Eliot Lipp, Krewella, Paper Diamond, Nervo, Echo, 3LAU, W&WKyau & Albert, DallasK, Orjan Nilsen, Brodinski, Angger Dimas, EOTO, Z-Trip, Kavinsky, Brass Fergie, Treasure Fingers, Buttrich/Squillace/Tanzmann, Sleepy & Boo, Andrew Bayer, Jaytech, Norin & Rad, DJ Bl3nd. Additionally, Tommy Trash, Gesaffelstein and 3LAU have been moved to different days/stages.

Check out Made Event for ticket & full line up info:  http://www.madeevent.com/ElectricZoo/

3. Zedd is running for president.

The master of clean shaven butts is after the American Iron Throne. Let’s make him king.

4. Dillon Francis is going on tour abroad and will make America proud.

He will also utter every swear word he knows. Look out Europe! Rated R, for raging.

5. Sander van Doorn & Mayaeni – “Nothing Inside”

It’s amazing how this song can be so sad and so hopeful at the same time. It’s like an uplifting yet tragic ballad about the breakdown familiar to anyone who’s experienced heartbreak. At the 3:20 mark, Mayaeni slows us down to indulge in a melancholy croon of how “we’re out of our minds with nothing inside,” but the second she stops, a slow build begins that literally rebuilds the song’s spirit. And the, Sander willingly delivers a smooth drop that reminds us everything will be okay. Plus the EDM Insider track review: here.

6. R3hab- “The Bottle Song” (Remixes)

You can always count of rehab for pounding dance tunes that make your whole body move involuntarily, and now, there are four sweet intoxicating versions of this one. Some dark intensity exudes from the Darth & Vader take on the track, much like the fallen Jedi from which they take their name.Check all the remixes & purchase on Beatport.

7. Dada Life “Kick Out the Epic Motherf**ker

Dada Life are back this week with yet another music video and this time they are terrorizing the suburbs. After complacently lip singing with the locals, they drops bombs with their beats and destroy, well, everything they can. From kiddie pools and guitars to stuffed animals and cups of coffee, suburbia will never be the same again. Be sure to check out the original documentary style video here.

8. Laidback Luke “1234” feat. Chuckie & Martin Solveig

This tune thrilled the masses at the UMF main stage, and now, it’s available on Beatport. (Buy it Here) When you combine a trio of dance song dynamos, you need to count off to prepare for this kind of drop into dance hall heaven. Plus a video with Elvis, President Obama, and Homer Simpson couldn’t resist making a cameo in.

9. Jay-Z & Kanye West – “Otis” (Ember Waves Remix)

It was only a matter of time before someone produced a dubstep remix of the reigning kings of hip hop. A great song not necessarily made greater, but turned into something mad filthy and quite awesome.

10. Skrillex & KOAN Sound on SoundCloud

Some new sets are now available on SoundCloud by two of my favorite bassmasters. Skrillex’s “Full Flex Express” consists of 10 post “Scary Monsters” masterpieces including most of the Bangarang EP, his “Levels” remix and the latest and greatest collab, “Lick It.”

Label-mate KOAN Sound, on the other hand has granted a set of 7 deadly remixes from the likes Kasabian to LoKo and, of course, the funkified “Kill Everybody” which is nothing if not swagilicious.

11. Knife Party is aaaaaalmost done with their album.

“Hey peeps

We’ve missed a couple deadlines on the EP, but we’re delivering the masters on FRIDAY and it will be out shortly after that. Lateness is due to having lots of shows booked in recently, and also the unfortunate combination of being lazy perfectionists. Putting the final tweaks on everything right now and DESPITE the leaked versions roaming about…the new ones are much, much better ;)

Apologies and hold tight – not long now!

R+G / KP”
