EDM Insider Weekly Roundup 6/2/2012 – 6/15/2012
Did you miss me? Well, this week I am bringing you DOUBLE TROUBLE as a way of repenting for my sin of leaving you Rounup-less. That’s right, double the tunes in a single serving. Happy Summer!
1. Porter Robinson gives it all away.
The young sire posts:
so, i just did a contest where i asked ya’ll to vote for what bootleg/matchup of mine i’d post when we got to 400 shares.
well you badasses got to 400 shares in 22 minutes, and after tallying it up it’s pretty fucking close, so i’m just gonna post all of em.
Nab the zip here: Porter Robinson Live Edits / Bootleg
2. Need some R3hab?
3. “Spectrum” lyrics for all
Zedd’s Vevo is kindly hosting a video of the lyrics for “Spectrum” and some fantastically simple visuals. Now, we can all sing along!
4. Doctor P & Dillon Francis “Music Is Dead”
This track plays the role of hard core party jam complete with a sampling from some young fool who doesn’t consider the electronic wonder that bursts out of many a speaker across the land music. Good. I’m starting to think these kids are complaining about house/electro/dubstep etc. just so that they can be sampled in this awesome songs. Don’t they realize it’s a DJ’s favorite thing to do and our favorite thing to dance to?
5. Tiësto & Showtek “Hell Yeah!”
Hell Yeah, indeed. Standard dance grooves from one of EDMs most beloved available for your pleasure on Beatport.
6. Hardwell “Three Triangles”
7. Denz Koyu “Bong”
Despite its name, this track is not exactly a stoner’s dream more likely to set off a tweak than a mellow revelation. The progressive beat and speedy build make for a wild ride. Toke with caution. Purchase on Beatport.
Which is basically like announcing that heaven’s gates have opened up so there’s that. Unless you don’t like Skrillex and co., in which case this doesn’t affect you at all so go troll on some YouTube videos, hater.
And it’s even more charming than it sounds. He tweeted about a week ago that he wanted to post this and I’m delighted to see the beautiful idea become a reality. While Zedd made it to demonstrate how he originally wrote the song, it also serves as a nice “fuck you” to haters who think anyone can produce great electronic music.
10. The Language Tour streams for you.
Porter Robinson along with Mat Zo and The M Machine have their own channel on Spotify complete with voting and a chat room where they list their favorite tracks and you can vote up your favorites while chatting with other supporters of The Language Tour. If you didn’t know about this already then you surely missed the chat with the producers themselves that took place yesterday at 3pm. Don’t feel bad, I did, too. Damn work computers not having Spotify. I’m in my sick bed so I’ll be hanging out in there a lot this weekend. Come virtually jam with me?
11. Thefuture.fm & EDM Insider hook you up with EDC sets.
They’ve got 63 ready to stream sets for you including Armin Van Buuren, Knife Party, Pretty Lights, Cazzette, Carl Cox, Nicky Romero, martin Solveig, R3hab, Alesso, HARDWELL, Sebastian Ingrosso, Calvin Harris and more.
12. Diplo – Express Yourself EP
With contributions from Datsik, GTA, Laserdisk Party Sex among others, Diplo’s latest EP is some of the bounciest electro house thanks to his hip hop inspired tendencies. If you need something with swagger, Diplo’s always got your back.
13. Calvin Harris & Example “We’ll Be Coming Back” (R3hab Remix) PREVIEW
This song is ridiculous because on the one hand we’re listening to Calvin’s lovely vocals and getting really sappy and I’m about to cry but, then that hot R3hab remix sound kicks in and I forget why I was sad in the first place. So, now my mascara is running, but I’m so hyped up on that pounding energy I don’t even notice. Yeah, that’s never happened before. Not at all.
14. Bassnectar Vava Voom Tour Recap Video
And he’s one of the coolest people in the history of music and life and everything so watch it and be jealous that you weren’t there. I am.
15. Mat Zo’s would have been EDC set is pure sonic gold.
Despite the weather stealing his spotlight on the grand EDC stage, he still performed and posted his would be set and, Vegas, you truly missed out. It’s a genius set. Mat Zo has such a unique take on mixing and puts together concepts and sounds and it’s just like where did you come from? He even threw in Beck’s “Loser” and a bass building tutorial.
16. Fedde le Grand & Nicky Romero “Sparks”
Dropped at EDC, this delectable little collab isn’t exactly out yet, but who can wait these days?
17. Dillon Francis <3s Sweden
This is one of the funniest little videos that exists for no reason except for making jokes and making fun of Avicii. So much love.
18. Daft Punk vs. Elite Force vs. The Loops Of Fury “Aerodynamic Be Strong” (Quintino Bootleg)
This bootleg is so bad ass it should be banned. With high pitched whoops, a sporadic gnarly bass line and club ready synths this track is booty poppin approved.
