EDM Insider Weekly Roundup 5/18/12 – 5/25/12

My dearest chick-a-dees, at long last, here’s a recap of everything that WASN’T Electric Daisy Carnival, also known as the wonderful festival of love that Alessandra did NOT attend.

(Except in my dreams where it became the backdrop of a zombie wasteland. And instead of frolicking on rides I had to forage for weapons and coconut water and get out of New York before everyone turned into flesh devouring mutants. This is what it’s like to live in my mind.)

1. HOLY SHIP!! Lineup Announced

Holy  Ship!! managed to snag another kick ass lineup including the likes of Justice, Knife Party, Major Lazer, Diplo (which means double duty for someone), A-Trak, Zedd, 12th Planet, Dillon Francis, Brodinski, Tommy Trash and you can click this link to see who else.

Cruise ships are my nightmare. There is nothing more loathsome than being trapped on a moving vessel with no escape, however, I would traverse this particular hell for that line up. So to people who actually enjoy cruises, what the hell are you waiting for? Book it!

2. Knife Party’s Rage Valley EP leaked.

And it’s just as rage-tastic as the name implies. As I listen to this at work, I swear I want to hurl my computer out the window and throw chairs at people. With bass blasting womps and sharp stabbing synths galore, these tracks are violent as a ravenous honey badger. Actually, if I has to assign an animal to every DJ act, Knife Party would definitely be a pair of crazy ass honey badgers. It officially drops on Sunday just in time for MEMORIAL DAY RAGING. Honestly, I may take my headphones out with me because if this shit is not playing I will ignore everyone and rage ALONE. At this moment in time I can’t be certain whether that will or will not happen.

3. Sleigh Bells “Demons” (Diplo Remix)

If the original Sleigh Bells track is a feral beast complete with wings, horn and claws, Diplo’s remix sent him to the salon, brushed his ferocious mane and adorned him with a sequined cape. He’s still fierce, but now, he’s ready to party.

4. Afrojack & Shermanology “Can’t Stop Me Now” (R3hab & Dyro Remix)

It’s only a preview so we only get a taste, but it tastes a little like “awesome” with a splash of “let’s say we’re dancing but really just jump up and down because we’re so excited.” I know this one is a four way collaboration, but I feel like everything R3hab touches gets bumped up into a higher level of epic.

5. Dirty South “May 2012 Podcast”

I have said it before and I’ll say it again (phrased slightly differently), Dirty South’s sound has a trans-formative quality in a dance club kind of way. What do you do if you need an extra burst of danceable energy? Dirty motherfucking South. Lucky for you, every month he provides an hour’s worth of that aural dance fuel that kicks every night into high gear. P.S Have you heard his latest City of Dreams track with Alesso dropped at EDCNYC? WOW!

Download on iTunes now!

6. Making the new Dada Life album Part 3

How badly do you want to hang out with Olle and Stefan? They want your advice on whether or not to add a vocal or a BING on their new track, “Heidi.” Look at the way Stefan bobs his head and strikes a pose for every break. Also look at the Red Bull littering the workspace which is clearly not enough for them because Olle still wants coffee.

7. Zedd feat. Matthew  “Spectrum”

Is that a song with actual lyrics coming from the man who kindly asks his fans to shave their butts and remixes video game themes? “Breathing you in when I want you out,” Koma croons and I’m just like, “that is so deep how do you know me so well?” And then I collapse in a heap on the floor.

8. Skrillex is not dead.

Don’t you hate it when that happens?

Sorry, Skrill. That must be a rough convo. Glad you are still alive though!

9. And if you still haven’t had enough EDC NYC…

We have a butt load of sets conveniently loaded onto our Mixcloud for your listening pleasure in case you haven’t noticed.

You’re welcome.
