With a new collaboration with Dmitry KO releasing on April 30th through Spinnin’ Records entitled, “Keep Pushing” we caught up with Starkillers for an exclusive EDM Insider interview on the success of his latest singles.
EDM Insider 1. How did you first get your start in the music industry? What prompted you to get involved in the Electronic Dance Music scene specifically?
Starkillers: I have always been musically minded. I started off by doing music for TV commercials and if I’m honest, I don’t really remember how I got into it.
EDM Insider 2. For someone who may not be familiar with your music, how would you describe your sound as a DJ/Producer?
Starkillers: I would describe the Starkillers sound as big room party music, full of energy that just makes you want to dance. It’s all about the party. I just want everyone that listens to the music to have a good time.
EDM Insider 3. You recently just won an IDMA award for Best Progressive Track along with Nadia Ali and Alex Kenji for the Alesso Remix of your track Pressure, a track that could easily be dubbed as one of the major EDM anthems of the past year. How does it feel to have such a successful track? Did you always know it would of been as big as it is?
Starkillers: It feels amazing. We had no idea when we wrote the record that it would become so big. It’s such an honor to win an award. We have to thank the fans for their support. Without them, the track would not be where it is now.
EDM Insider 4. As a DJ/Producer, you experience traveling the world’s best party atmospheres. What city or venue has been your favorite place to play in to date? What has been your most memorable gig so far in your career?
Starkillers: I just got back from London, and had a great show there. I don’t really have a specific favorite. There have been so many good parties and I’m sure there will be so much more to come. I am really looking forward to touring Australia this May.
EDM Insider 5.You also recently collaborated with Russian DJ/Producer Dmitry KO on the single “Light it Up” released on Diffused Music, along with a hard hitting Michael Woods edit. How did you first get linked up to collaborate with Dmitry KO? How did you originally get the idea for this track?
Starkillers : Dmitry and I have been friends for many years, we collaborate on a lot of projects. He is a real talent and a pleasure to work with. The track just came to us one early morning when we were in the studio. We were talking about how we could light up the dance floor. Simple really.
EDM Insider 6. Founded in 2002, tell us a little bit about your expectations for your record label, Terratraxx in the upcoming year? With current releases out on Spinnin’Records, Diffused Records, as well as others. What is your current vision for your label for this year and beyond?
Starkillers: Terratraxx is taking a back seat for now. We are going to be focusing on killer music. When the time is right, we will help new artists as well as supporting already established ones. We have a clear vision for the label.
EDM Insider 7. Your 2011 collaboration with Nadia Ali with “Pressure” alongside Alex Kenji was a major club anthem on Spinnin’ Records as previously mentioned. Your follow up single, “Keep it Coming” with Nadia is now currently available on Beatport. How did your musical relationship with Nadia begin? Do you have plans to collaborate again in the future?
Starkillers : Yes, Nadia and I have some more music to come. We have been friends for years and she is so great to work with. When we are in the studio together, it just clicks!
EDM Insider 8. Who are some of your influences in the EDM industry today? Who do you hope to collaborate with in the future that you have not yet had the chance to?
Starkillers: I’d love to do a track with Michael Woods, Afrojack maybe. There are so many great guys out there at the moment that I’d like to make music with!
EDM Insider 9. What else can fans expect to see from Starkillers throughout the duration of 2012?
Starkillers: More music, more touring! I can’t wait for Australia, Ibiza and the European Tour planned for this year. 2012 is already such an exciting year!
