Review: Bumping & Grinding with the Boys of Sazon Booya (NYC + Camp Bisco)

The marriage between EDM and the sensual groove of Latin music has been a happy and prosperous one and when forces are this compatible, you know this is a union that will outlast TomKat. DJ SAV and Mr. Vega have taken moombahton through its honeymoon stage into full out marital bliss with their seamless blend of cross-genre brilliance.  These boys have a gift for rhythm whether it’s a latin beat or a bass heavy womp. Their mastery of cross genre integration has bounciness graffitied over every bump and grind. Making cross country moves on the Bros Gone Wild Tour and staying true to their NYC roots, Sazon Booya has been cracking out tunes and pleasing crowds with the help of their hype man, Mystereo.

The space was intimately airy at first allowing for a slow build through :D FACE’s set and lead to the packed dance floor familiar to Libation on the rowdiest of Saturday nights. As new crowd members continued to roll in, every second of that perfect reggaeton inspired tempo grooved through to a build up that the boys of Booya gladly brought to climax.

As the beats blasted, every boom moved hips almost involuntarily, as if a sexy dancing demon up and took over and there was no stopping the plague of moombah madness. They kicked back into nostalgia town with some old school hip hop followed by a delightfully dirty transition into Knife Party’s “Sleaze.” Keeping the energy level cranked up, Sazon Booya seamlessly weaved their way through new tunes and cross genre jams, reading the hyped up crowd like how to manual of dancing desires.

And as for Mystereo, the beloved hype man got his grind on with Libation’s lovely balcony dancer as well as a few lucky ladies daring enough to mount the side banquet. The dude switched between the top deck and lower level faster than a ninja on speed, spreading dancing cheer like a moombah minion. Check out his theme song below, available for free download on Sound Cloud.

Since that epic evening, DJ SAV and Mr. Vega have been busy rocking out at the legendary Grammercy Theater and making a surprise appearance at the 11th annual Camp Bisco Festival. The latter seemed like a spur of the moment decision that started with a tweet…

…and ended in a secret performance by the duo followed by a back to back set by DJ SAV and Subset for 7 hours. Go hard or go home, right?

With an unstoppable drive and a vibe as hot as the land from which their tunes take their rhythm, it’s not hard to get behind the moombah mobile. Never fear, ladies and gentleman, you can ride certain that Sazon Booya have taken the wheel and are steering the genre to paradise.
